What is an Apple Authorized Service Provider?

An Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) is an individual or organization authorized by Apple

to repair Apple Products. Before Apple began opening retail Apple Stores, independent mac repair shops did all the walk-in warranty mac repair on Apple computers and other Apple devices.

Independent, 3rd party mac repair shops would often become Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) through Apple’s AASP program. Independent Apple Authorized Service Providers not only perform AppleCare warranty repairs, they also perform repairs under Apple’s extended warranty replacement program, when parts on a particular model mac are found to be defective or have a

high rate of failure.

As an independent mac repair shop with Apple Certified Mac Technicians, we not only provide all mac hardware and software repairs and upgrades for most every model of Apple Computer ever made, we also provide many services and repairs that the Apple Store does not provide, including data recovery on most every model of Macintosh computer and all brands of external hard drives, service and repairs on macs that are more than five years old, 3rd party software installation and support (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Quickbooks, Turbo Tax and Microsoft Office (MS word, Excel, Powerpoint), remote support and many other services. Neither Apple nor most Apple Authorized Service Providers provide data recovery, repair & service of 5+ yr old Macs, and many other services MacAdvantage has offered for decades.

Soon after Apple began opening Apple Stores to perform repairs on macs in 2001, Apple stopped allowing or severely reduced the number of independent mac repair shops it authorized as Apple Authorized Service Providers (aka AASP), and particularly those independent repair shops in close proximity to any one of the new Apple Stores.

MacNetworks in Santa Rosa was the Apple Authorized Service Provider in Sonoma County for over 20 years, long before Apple Stores began opening.  Located at 10th & Mendocino in downtown Santa Rosa, Mac Network’s neon rainbow Apple sign was a familiar site to mac users in Santa Rosa and throughout Sonoma County.

In Santa Rosa, Apple Authorized Service Providers are sometimes referred to as Mac Authorized Dealers, Apple Authorized Mac Repair, Apple Authorized Dealers or Mac Authorized Repair Stores, by Santa Rosa mac users, on Apple support forums, and by members of mac user groups including the Santa Rosa North County mac user group, NCMUG.

Apple Authorized Service Providers must demonstrate they meet the financial parameters required in Apple’s authorization program, by producing audited financial records, and must have a line of credit in accordance with Apple’s financial representatives. AASP’s must maintain a walk-in shop, and secure workshop area. Apple products serviced by Apple Authorized Service Providers must be done by Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians.

Apple Authorized Service Providers must meet other parameters such as employing at least one Apple Certified Macintosh Technician for every thirty Apple repairs conducted weekly. Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians must pass both software and hardware exams at an Apple Authorized Prometric Testing Center.

Apple Authorized Service Provider status allows the purchase of parts directly from Apple to complete hardware repairs on Apple computers, and allows access to Apple’s product, repair, service, troubleshooting and upgrade information, along with technical support.
